Sherwood Pines Forest Dirt Jump Project

30 August 2006  |
Over the past number of years we have had a large number of jump sports across Sherwood and these have caused some problems due to their siting and construction. To improve the sport and facilities we have designated a large area on the western side of Sherwood Pines Forest Park to develop a jump spot and riding area. The area is vast and has great emergency access and even has links to the National Cycle Route so it’s ideal. Over the past few months we have had a few people step up to the mark to help with design but so far no one has committed. We are now actively looking for a band of people to look at the site and come up with designs to take forward to the build stage. Ideally we would like to include some beginners stuff to help get people into the sport and but also provide plenty of progressive stuff to challenge riders. We can provide support to kick the project off with the aid of the JCB but its important to have a community of riders involved with the site to help out with design and maintenance of the site. Also when it comes to funding its invaluable. So if you have some time to spare and would like to see a legitimate well maintained site that won’t be knocked down after all your hard work drop us a line as soon as. We have a Forest Park Warden who’s role is to help co-ordinate the works and ensure things progress. Her name is Rebecca Mayo and she is on hand to sort out work parties and dig days. Drop her a email if you want to get involved. ([email protected]) Remember this is a great chance to get involved and make a difference, there has been a huge amount of behind the scenes work over the past couple of years to support dirt jumping and work through some of the problems and court cases so don’t let us down. www.forestry.gov.uk
